Weekend Bouts: Joshua vs Pulev & Stevenson-Clary

Remember when Anthony Joshua was all the rage? It wasn't that long ago but Joshua has a title defense this weekend and if nobody told you, you would never know it. Joshua goes up against Kubrat Pulev Saturday afternoon. Pulev is 39 years old, hasn't fought in over a year and since losing to Wladimir Klitchko in 2014 has only averaged a fight a year and those fights have been against limited opposition in the form of Sam Peter and Maurice Harris among others. Should be safe one for Joshua. Fight is on DAZN Saturday afternoon.

Former WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson makes his return to the ring on ESPN Saturday night. Stevenson is 14-0 and goes up against Toka Kahn Clary who despite being 28-2 is not considered anything more than an opponent for Stevenson. Card begins at 10pm on Saturday night on ESPN.

Pulev isn't a bum, but I see this is as more of a showcase fight for Joshua. Hopefully he'll impress and finally make the Fury fight.

Stevenson needs to look very impressive in order to land the big Teofimo fight in 2021.

Good performance by Joshua, Pulev looked his age though, wasn't much snap to his jab.

Would like to see more of Lawrence Okolie who was on the undercard.

Anthony Joshua knocked out Kubrat Pulev in the ninth round in their unified heavyweight title fight. Pulev took a standing 8 count and a knockdown in the 3rd and was knocked down twice in the ninth. Pulev was never in the fight and it always seemed Joshua could end the fight whenever he wanted.

Joshua did what he needed to do against an aged opponent. Here's the full fight if anyone is interested in watching it.

I didn’t think he looked great - he better stay far away from Wilder or else he will be part of a highlight reel ...
