1960. Dublin Stadium. Ireland vs Wales .Amateur International.
I was 5 years old and my Dad brought me.
Ringside.
I still remember the two countries teams entering the arena from opposite sides, the flyweights carrying the oversized flags...the most exciting thing I had ever seen.
The memory still makes me smile.
Many years later Dublin Stadium would be the venue of my first date (to see Joe Cocker) with my wife.
Small world.
Q. What is the difference between an Irish wake and an Irish wedding?
A. One less drunk.
The first big one I remember was Monzon vs Napoles...my dad was rooting for Napoles.
Up, up, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
My first real pro boxing match was tony mundine at the horden pavilion. Couldn't tell you who he was fighting, although i know he won by ko. I would have been around 7 or 8 I suppose.
On TV: No clue. We used to watch boxing growing up whenever the family got together for a big bout.
Live: Morales vs. Barerra 1
A Real QB...
The first live fight I saw was an amateur bout and one of the fighters was named Earl McLeay. Mid to late 60's.

the first big fight i saw was closed circut forman v frazier
i never saw a man get his so hard.
L'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace!
From what I recall. I don't think any of the fights I first saw on T.V were live per se. I could be wrong. Joe Frazier was the first fighter I had seen on T.V. Then there was Ali. I saw Frazier before Ali. I think I remember seeing Foreman as well in the 68 Olympics. I remember hearing a lot about Ali and Frazier. But seeing more of Frazier. It would make sense because Ali's comeback fight was in 70 I had seen quite a few of Frazier fights, like Quarry and Ellis and probably a some other Frazier fights before those two I just don't remember against who and so on.
Pretty sure. The first actual live fight 'event' I saw CC,, would be Duran Leonard 1.
"He had Manny's number. We need to get to work on how to deal with the counterpunchers a little better. I need to do my job a little better. Marquez is a fight I don't want us to take again. But I think we have to."
Freddie Roach Post-Fight (Marquez-Pacquiao 3)
It was a Esteban De Jesus fight when was still a prospect.
I have no recollection at all......it was some Friday Night Fights thing.
First on tape was Tyson - Berbick I think, either that or Duran - Buchanan. Live broadcast was De La Hoya - Coley I think. Had just started boxing and was blown away by De La Hoya's jab and the way he slipped all of Coley's shots when he unloaded on DLH in about the 4th round.
Sr. Mitsuo "Count Koma" Maeda → Carlos Gracie Sr. → Carlos "Carlinhos" Gracie Jr. → Jean Jacques Machado → John Will → Jason Quek → me
Ali v Holmes-with the old man-hooked ever since, although not the best Ali fight to get introduced to Boxing! Always remember the sadness in my father watching that fight.
Some local amateurs in Germany in the 80s.
That was a good one. Coley actually had his moments but DLH weathered the storm. I remember before the fight Coley said he had a recurring dream that he was going to beat De la Hoya and asked if De la Hoya was going to show up in a miniskirt and whether or not Oscar De la Hoya was really Ricky Martin.
Come to think of it, maybe Coley does have SOME psychic powers!
I recall listening to the Marciano/Charles fight on the car radio, which worked better than the other one we had. I watched many of the old Gillette fights but don't recall which one would be the first. Here is an old Hamm's commercial with Rocky Marciano, I remember seeing back in those days. Can't remember. Possibly the Sugar Ray Leonard Hagler fights.
I had to hit him quick... he was beginning to make sense.
I don't even remember. I honestly was so turned off by it that I can't recall.
Over time though, I grew to love the sport!
Tyson vs Berbick was the one i remember seeing first, the first live fight i attended was an amateur fight my cousin was fighting in, i was about 8.
