View Full Version : Teddy Atlas
What is with this guy? This guy has a metaphor and a pun for every situation, I find him quite humorous to listen to. "Put those earmuffs on" "Put water in that basement".

He is class.
I love how american fans give out about their commentators. They don't know how good they have it.
In UK&Ireland we have the likes of Adam Smith, John Rawlings, Duke McKensie, Johnny Nelson etc, all PISS POOR and make you want to punch the television when they talk.
lol, I haven't heard them. What's so bad about them?

Teddy Atlas is the most obnoxious boxing commentator in American TV today.
Yes...even worse than Max Kellerman.
I like the British commentators.
Atlas is not class. Atlas goes to the same wells over and over. His ego is off the charts.
When he is being positive or analytical, then he does a great job. When he is complaining or critical, he sucks hard. Not because there aren't times for being critical or complaining, but because he doesn't do it well or intelligently.
Seems like he would be a cool guy to have as a friend, though.

Some of the Brit commentators have gotten worse over the years. This Adam Smith cown simply doesn't seem to know his stuff: not quite the days of Reg Gutteridge nor Harry Carpenter. I still think Jim Watt is very good, though, in spite of his highly irritating voice.
Atlas is a ranter, which is a pity since he seems to know a lot of stuff, but he does indeed use way too many stock lines. I've been sitting there sometimes just wishing somebody would "put money in the bank" by "working" Teddy's "body, and the head will follow"!

Agree MikE,
Teddy is MUCH too conceited for my tastes. Too much of a "My way or the highway." He can't take contractive criticism so that part of him makes him a prick.
But sometimes that prick element of him can be better than having the HBO guys or whatever just bond together and shake the pom-poms for the boxer they have under contract just to keep a warm and fuzzy relationship with them. Remember when Merchant went against the grain once by saying Delahoya's entrance music sucked? He got banned for a telecast. Teddy says damn well what he feels and that could be both a blessing AND a curse.
But when he is wrong about stuff, and he IS WRONG about things. But Teddy never admits he's wrong and that's why he's not as good as he thinks he is. I think he's over-rated as a trainer just because he carried Tyson's spit bucket as an AMATEUR.
Teddy would only accept people as friends if they followed his agendas. I would be afraid to disagree with him for fear of getting punched or something. Teddy has a temper and he got in a fight with an ESPN cameraman once and I think he hit the guy.
I would probably like him better as a writer than a talker. I like Brian Kenny. But Joe "Testicle" is little more than Atlas' "Yes Teddy, I agree with you, and you're so wonderful cock-sucking" sidekick. No more, no less.
