I used to do a lot of ropeclimbing when I was younger, particularly from the time I was 20-24. I got out of it when I started finishing off the old high school credits and started university. Now that I've been doing so many chins as of late, I figured it might be the time to try the ropeclimbing.

Basically I climb about 20 ft up a knotted rope, knotted every 8 inches or so. Even though I've been getting 10 sets of 10-12 in the chins, this was damn hard. I kept a steady momentum and did 3 solid climbs up and down, using just my arms. My hands are sore and raw, and I felt weird pains in my forearms, biceps, and shoulders.

Feels good. In 3 or 4 days, I'll do it again and get 6 good climbs. It always adds muscle and great strength to my forearms, grip, and pulling muscles. Great for jiu jitsu.http://www.fightbeat.com/forums/images/smilies/party0023.gif

That sounds pretty cool - I have a lot of belief in the old school methods which is why I have incorporated pullups and dips into my routine for the last two years.

I would love to try out the rope climb again but it's been over 17 years since the last time! The old fashioned school/ military gyms would have the facilities but my present gym does not have high enough ceilings let alone ropes. Good work on the 3 ascents.

One day, I'd like to go back to my pallet making routes and try out a bit of the old wood chopping like Oscar De Le Hoya did before the Vargas fight. Vargas went in that fight looking twice as strong as De La Hoya yet De La Hoya had the steel in the end.

Old school techniques give you the REAL strength. Ask the question: Who would you rather have help move your house effects? A farmer or a weightlifter? Weightlifters would be useful until they'd climbed up their 3rd flight of stairs.

I felt weird pains in my forearms, biceps, and shoulders.

LOL. Remo, like I said, I used to do it quite a bit. It wasn't too bad because I've been doing 10 sets of 10 chinups. It's not easy, but it strengthens everything in the upper body.

There's a fair amount of woods near my place, so it's easy to have a rope set up there that nobody messes with, dude. I actually set it up two years ago.

Yes, I once yanked a rope that turned out to be your mother's tampon cord. The huge fucking thing plopped out of her. It looked like a big, red, VW Beetle. You know, you really should keep that bitch on a leash.

Well, I tried to keep the discussion to exercise-related matters. :555:
