View Full Version : What must Ortiz do to win?

I love how the UFC always hypes up their fights by showing a lot of FREE fights of each combatant on SPIKE TV prior to a big UFC. They got my hyped!
Although I favor Liddell, I really believe that Ortiz has a shot this time. I don't know if he can ultimately pull it off, but I think he'll be really competitive this time. Let's hope I'm right! mex.gif
So what must he do to have any chance?

I thought Huntington Beach was like a surfer place? I know Korn lived there for awhile too! graemlins/yo.gif
Anyway back to the subject. I've been watching UFC 43 Tito vs. Randy and UFC 44 Randy vs Chuck I just to compare how Randy fought them both.
Randy beat Chuck by being aggressive and setting up his takedowns with his punches. He made Chuck fight at a pace that wore him down by the 3rd round. Tito's gotta do the same thing. It ain't easy though as Chuck showed in fights II and III with Randy all he had to do was move side to side and counter.

So what must he do to have any chance? Here's what one of Tito's training partners said.
Kit Cope:
?Tito vs. Chuck 2 goes like this?Tito fights a smart fight and Chuck fights like Chuck fights. I?m sure Chuck is thinking if it ain?t broke don?t fix it, however Tito is going to come at him with a different strategy. He?s going to hang back. He?s not going to rush forward because Chuck does not take a step forward. He never ever moves forward unless he?s got you hurt already. This is just a prediction, but I think Tito?s going to hang back and make Chuck move forward and if Chuck moves forward, he?s going to be in danger of being taken down. I think its going to be a very boring fight for the first two rounds and then look for Tito?s conditioning to take over right about round three and maybe even press Chuck against the cage. And once Tito?s got that body lock its over. I think it goes the distance though

I can't pinpoint exactly why, but Tito Ortiz is my least favourite MMArtist by far. Maybe it's his name, maybe it's his nickname, maybe it's how he cried like a bitch after losing when calling himself the Badboy, maybe it's all of the above, but the guy annoys me as much as a pro athlete can.

Will there be any interesting fights on the undercard?

I dunno shit about MMA but I want to watch this fight after watching a one hour documentary about the fight on TV Azteca.
Looks like Tito got thumbed in the eye prior to falling apart. I dunno if any of you have been thumbed in the eye but it isn't pleasant and it hurts like all hell.
From an untrained eye the win looked flukey. Maybe it'll be different this time. What the fuck do I know? graemlins/555.gif

Arlovski and Bisping are way better at stand up than the guys they are fighting and Schafer and De Pano probably can't get them down so Arlovski and Bisping should win easy. Not sure how Leben-MacDonald will play out but the other 2 should be KO's for Bisping and Arlovski.

I think Tito's standup is good enough too use the stradegy Jackson used to beat Liddel, mix the standup and the wrestling and use controlled aggression and he can win this fight...................but actually doing it is a different story but you have too be foolish to think Tito doesn't have a shot tonight.
EDIT:I also forgot too add that defense will be crucial for Tito in this fight, after he throws or lands his punches he should always ALWAYS bring the gaurd up afterwards or go for the clinch or takedown,he should not give Chuck the chance too counter that's something I thought Jackson did a brilliant job of and it forced Chuck too be more aggressive than usual and in the end wear himself out.

I can understand wanting to see Chuck lose...but to root for Tito as the one to do it is strange...he is annoying as fuck.
The eyepoke is a Chuck specialty...he is a KemPoke practicioner afterall.
The undercards suck ass.
I am boycotting becuz apparently Chris Leben is still blowing Dana White and is on TV once again...that guy is like watching grass grow... graemlins/sleeping.gif ...
This is one shitty overhyped card...

Yeah Jardine is a decent fighter. Surprised he bashed Griffen like that though. Griffen has always shown a reliable chin in the UFC.

Liddell's alway's partying before a fight graemlins/drunk.gif ....but anyway Tito came in with a bad game plan........actually the same one he used the last time graemlins/lol.gif He didn't mixup his attack too keep Chuck guessing,it was either one thing or another but at least Tito caught Chuck a few time and knicked him up which is not a good sign for Chuck because Tito's standup is ok but nothing special..........Jackson's standup is on a whole nother level compared too Tito's and better at switching up his attack more fluidly.
EDIT: I'm also happy Keith Jardine got the win,he made this man 20 bones richa. graemlins/muscle.gif

Tito fought as well as he could he's just not as good as Chuck. His gameplan don't matter, he can't beat him. He tried to make Chuck come at him and he had decent success at times but the power difference was to much.
Oh and BTW, Chuck will crush Jackson if Jackson makes it to a rematch.

EDIT:I don't recall anybody beating Chuck backing up,like I said bad stradegy.

He's going to punch Jackson on the chin and Jackson is going to fall real hard. What gameplan is Tito supposed to use to beat Lidell? Seriously, THERE ISN'T ONE!! He don't have the tools to beat him. Some people are just better than you. That is Chuck and Tito. No excuses, Tito fought as well as he could possibly fight and he lost.

And you base this on what?last I checked it was Jackson kicking Chucks ass in the standup all over the ring last time they fought.
As for tito your right on that one,I thought he could of used Jackson's stradegy but now that I think about it he's not as good as Jackson.

Well, we will see about Lidell and Jackson, I pick Lidell with confidence. Jackson is not what he once was. He found god and lost his fighting ability graemlins/lol.gif As for Jackson and Tito, I am not really sure who is better but Jacson obviously has the better tools to deal with Chuck.

That's cool, but I think Jackson is better than Tito though.everthing tito does Jackson seems too do better inside the Octotgon/Ring plus he's more physically gifted than Tito.
As for Jackson not being what he used too be,I can agree on that. he seemed too have lost the killer instinct, there's times like he seemed he didn't want too be there but at the same time the fighters he's had trouble with lately werent exactly tomato cans either they would give anybody a tough fight. I would like too believe that Chuck has improved since then but too keep it real I really don't know, the only way for me too know is if he fights a fighter that can stand with him and I think Jackson is the man because Liddell had NO answer for Jacksons unorthadox standup style last time so I think fighting Jackson will show if Chucks improved or still the same.

Chuck tore his ACL apparently 3 weeks ago and said nothing, so he is going to be out for a while.
I thought Chuck looked ordinary and sloppy (physically). Makes sense that something was wrong with him.
