Why do so many have oatmeal as a staple in their diet. For the same amount of calories why not toast for example? Thanks.

oatmeal is a great NATURAL food...check the ingredients on a can of Quaker...there is only one  that in itself is a GREAT thing. Its just CUT...not refined like a bread flour

high in fiber, complex carbs, iron, vitamins, even some protein...actual studies show real reductions in cholesterol levels (if you believe in that sort of thing) and improved glucose tolerance.

oatmeal is damn near a perfect food.

if man had to choose just 4 or 5 items to eat...oatmeal should be on that short list...i'd choose bananas, oranges, lean hormone free RED meat, and maybe a veggie also

i just looked at the ingredients list on my whole wheat bread (the kind that is supposedly good for you) :slap:

whole wheat flour
water
wheat gluten
yeast
sugar
honey
wheat bran
soybean oil
molasses
salt
raisin juice
wheat protein
wheat starch
wheat flour
natural and artificial flavors :headscratch:
soy lecithin
Mono and Diglycerides
sodium stearoyl lactylate
datem
calcium silicate
monoglycerides with citric acid
calcium sulfate
ammonium sulfate
ascorbic acid
calcium peroxide
azodicarbonamide
corn flour
rice flour or barley flour
monocalcium phosphate
calcium propionate

i won't pretend to know what all of those things are in my "100% WHOLE WHEAT" Bread...but when compared to Oatmeal : Rolled Oats

You folks should try again - oatmeal is a fantastic breakfast and stops any kind of 'stomach growling' during meetings! I cook my oatmeal up w/ semi-skimmed milk and then add a squeeze of honey and maybe throw in some dehydrated cranberries just for a laugh. I bloody love the stuff!

Re-read BJ's post on the nutritional value - a billion horses can't be wrong.
